Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
